REDISTRICTING CHANGES 22nd DISTRICT BOUNDARIES

Old District Map

Every ten years the boundaries of legislative districts are redrawn based on changes in population as determined by the United States Census. This process is usually referred to as "redistricting" or "reapportionment." It affects election districts for the State Senate and the State Assembly, as well as districts for the federal House of Representatives in the United States Congress.

The U.S. District Court Eastern District of Wisconsin developed a court-ordered redistricting plan for state legislative districts. The court’s decision took effect on May 25, 2002. In accordance with this plan, the 22nd assembly district has undergone some boundary shifts. (Please see the “new” and “old” map graphics to the right.)

The Villages of Fox Point, Whitefish Bay, River Hills and Shorewood, including one previously excluded Shorewood ward, remain within the 22nd district’s boundaries. A major change is that the district no longer includes the Village of Bayside or the northeast corner of Brown Deer. These areas instead are a part of the 23rd district, which borders the 22nd.

Another significant change is that the district now encompasses most of the City of Glendale apart from three southern and western wards. Four City of Milwaukee wards (38, 40, 147 and 150) are also part of the new district.
